First Bill Introduced: Lowering Taxes

January 25, 2013

I am proud to have introduced my first bill in the Kansas House of Representatives this past week. It gets rid of the property tax burden on a manufactured home after that home has been destroyed in a natural disaster. Right now, property taxes are assessed on January 1st and the owner must pay those taxes even if the property is hit by a tornado and no longer livable.  Under this new measure, those property taxes will be rebated.

This is a problem in our tax law that affects our most vulnerable citizens the hardest, so I am excited to see this bill moving forward. I am also proud that it is co-sponsored by 6 of my Republican colleagues, making it a truly bipartisan measure.
