About Brandon Whipple

Brandon Whipple and Kathleen Sebelius

Kansas Values

Brandon Whipple learned the value of hard work from building houses with his father, a Union carpenter. His father taught him that you can achieve anything if you have a vision, and work hard towards that vision. His dad encouraged Brandon to find a way to make a living using all his gifts, not just his hands. With this lesson, Brandon became the first person in his family to graduate college.

Local Education

Brandon earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Wichita State University. His education focused on social services, community development and public policy. Brandon sees education as a pathway to a brighter future, a future where every Kansan has the opportunity to excel.

Passion for Service

Brandon uses his education to help the future generation of Kansas as a substitue teacher and works with the YMCA After School Program at Truesdell Middle School. In 2003, Brandon logged more than 1,700 hours working with troubled teens through the Wichita Public School's GRASP program at South High.

Beyond his work in education, Brandon is a member of the South Wichita Business Association, an elected officer of the Southwest Neighborhood Associaiton and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.
